There are many reasons to learn new languages. As well as the fact that learning a foreign language can help you to develop your mind and become more creative, it can enhance your career prospects, giving you a better chance of getting an overseas job. Of course, there is also the fun side of things – learning new languages opens up exciting worlds to us which we otherwise wouldn't have been able to see or experience. Relaxing time is the most important thing for us. We are always busy with our work. So it is good for us to have some free time, some after-work free time. It makes our life more colorful and attractive, not just to us but also to our friends and relatives. Some of them may be interested in learning a new language too. Then we can share our experiences together with them, not only motivating them but also giving them a starting point for their own learning journey. There are many different types of language resources out there – TV channels, DVDs, books etc. and the goal is to find a resource that will suit your learning style and needs. The first step is to decide whether this resource will be used as a course or as a reference book. If you are using this resource to learn new languages at home, then it must be viewed as an activity that you are working on. This means that you need to set aside time each day to work on it, at least 20 minutes. When you are learning with a course book, interaction with the teacher is unnecessary – take advantage of the fact that you can read ahead! Read all of the vocabulary before class, jot down any new words or phrases which you don't understand and print out any mock translations for use after class. Keep a notebook and pen with you at all times, even when you're on the move. This way, you can still learn new things and not forget things that you have already learned. Also, set aside time to revise new words. Form groups and take turns revising each other's notes – this is a great way to raise self-confidence and make sure that everyone understands their own notes! Of course, it is also important to study the language on your own. After each dialogue or lesson, compare what was taught with the explanations of your textbook and try to work out how phrases and words are used in context. A dictionary can be an invaluable learning tool for students who want to improve their languages. Using a dictionary for languages is not only useful from the point of view of vocabulary, it can also help in avoiding mistakes when using a word for the first time. Remember, a language is a living thing in which words and grammar constantly change. Learning a language well is about absorbing new words and phrases as they become meaningful to you, not just memorising them to pass tests. But there are other important reasons why you should use a dictionary when learning languages: Languages do not have fixed sounds or pronunciations that can be learnt from books or CDs. In fact, when you learn a language, your native tongue often changes in unpredictable ways.
